Zambia Upbeat Ahead of Africa 7’s Showdown

Zambia Rugby Union president Clement Sinkamba says that the side is set for the Africa Sevens tournament.

Zambia Rugby Union president Clement Sinkamba says that the side is set to represent the country at the Africa Sevens tournament slated for Tunisia from October 13, 2018.

Speaking to the Ducor Sports, Sinkamba said that his boys are determined to give a good account of themselves in Africa’s top competition which will have twelve teams competing.

“This is an exciting challenge for our boys who are still basking in victory after hosting the Zambia International 7s at the Polo Club in Lusaka earlier in September 2018,” said Sinkamba.

The rugby boss added that Zambia will be parading a much improved side in the tournament which he expects will provide the team with a chance to improve and gain experience.

“Our partnerships with other unions across Africa has started yielding results, you may be aware that four of our players are currently in South Africa training and playing for the acclaimed South Africa All Stars Rugby Academy, our efforts may seem like bunny steps but we are glad with our progress so far,” he added.

Zambia has been drawn in Pool D alongside Namibia and Madagascar in the tournament that will be held in the city Monastir where the best will be crowned the continent’s champions.

Back to back champions Uganda have been drawn in Pool B and will be battling in the group against two West African opponents Senegal and Ghana.

Another Africa 7s powerhouse Kenya, who did not participate in the last edition in Kampala, are in pool A alongside Morocco and Botswana while last year’s runners-up Zimbabwe are placed in pool C with Tunisia and Mauritius.
