Moroccan giants Wydad Casablanca have sacked their coach Sebastien Desabre and appointed Juan Carlos Garrido as his replacement, the club announced on Tuesday.

Moroccan giants Wydad Casablanca have sacked their coach Sebastien Desabre and appointed Juan Carlos Garrido as his replacement, the club announced on Tuesday.

The decision to remove Desabre was confirmed following a board meeting that lasted more than four hours at the club offices on Tuesday morning.

Wydad are top of Botola but have won only one of their last four matches. Desabre is the second manager to be sacked by the club this season after they let go of Serbian Zoran Manojlovic nine games into the campaign.

“The Wydad Athletic Club and Sebastian Desabre have reached an agreement to terminate the contract that united both parties,” read a club statement released on Tuesday afternoon, as translated from Arabic.

Juan Carlos Garrido was also presented to the media moments later, but terms were not released.

“Wydad and Juan Carlos Garrido have reached an agreement for the latter to become the first-team coach,” the club said.

His first game will be Africa Champions League quarter-final clash against Tunisia’s Etoile du Sahel that is set to be played on Saturday at Stade Mohammed V.

Garrido has made no secret of his admiration for the stylistic traditions of Wydad, with the 50-year-old also renowned for favouring an exciting, offensive mode of football.

A former player of El Puig Club de Fútbol, he was circled as a potential Wydad coach during a particularly successful period in charge of Club Brugge.

Garrido lifted the CAF Confederation Cup with Al Ahly and Raja Casablanca as well as the Moroccan Throne Cup and Egyptian Super Cup during his time in North Africa.
