Volleyball: Ghana Police, Nigeria Customs Crowned Zone 3 Club Champions

As expected, Ghana Police retained their men’s title with a straight set victory of 3-0 (25-22, 25-19, 25-17) over Nigeria Customs in their final game played at the University of Lagos, Nigeria.

Ghana Police came from behind to win the first set which was at the early stages dominated by the Nigerians who later lost the pace of the game to lose the second and third set.

The head coach of Ghana Police, Elisha Ayiku, said in an interview with CAVB portal, “I am excited beating Nigeria for the second time on her home soil.”

“The next assignment for most of my players is to qualify for the All African Game. We will be back in Nigeria to cement our participation at the games in Morocco.”

In the third play-off, Nigeria Police defeated Nigeria Immigration 3-0 (25-20, 25-21, 27-25).

In the women’s competition, Nigeria Customs came from behind to defeat nemesis Nigeria Immigration Services 3-0 (25-11, 25-21, 28-26) in a match that Customs coach Femi Akanni fielded a strong squad featuring  Priscilla Agera, Tochi Nnoruga and Ladi Jalmet.

Meanwhile, the President of Nigeria Volleyball Federation, Engineer Musa Nimrod thanked the Zone 3 Volleyball executives for allowing Nigeria to host the championship for the second straight year.

“Since the return of the Zone 3 championships, the level of competitiveness among clubs in the region has improved drastically. In some years to come West Africa will be a force to reckon with by the grace of God.”
