Vincent Aboubakar Linked with Rayo Vallecano Move

Cameroonian striker Vincent Aboubakar has reportedly emerged on the radar of Spanish La Liga side Rayo Vallecano, according to reports.

The 30-year-old had a heroic showing in the recently concluded 2022 FIFA World Cup where he helped Cameroon become the first African nation to beat five-time champions Brazil in their last group stage game.

Aboubakar is currently in the books of the Saudi Arabian outfit Al-Nassr where he has one year remaining on his contract.

According to French publication Camerfoot Infos, discussions between Aboubakar agents and their Spanish counterparts are currently in the works before the official opening of the January transfer window.

Ducor Sports understands that the striker was on Sunday close to joining the Olympique Marseille but the move failed to materialize due to the striker’s demands.

Rayo Vallecano are currently placed 8th on the Spanish La Liga table with 22 points from 14 matches.

Aboubakar has been with Al-Nassr since July last year and has been receiving around 6 million euros ($7.31 million) per season for his services.

Born in Garoua, Cameroon, Aboubakar started his professional career with the local side Coton Sport.

He caught the eye as an 18-year-old when he was named the only home-based player in the Cameroon squad for the 2010 World Cup in South Africa.

He then earned a move to Europe where he had stints at French clubs Valenciennes and Lorient, Porto in Portugal, and Besiktas. He has also scored 25 goals in 71 international matches for Cameroon.
