Ethiopia to Camp in Morocco Ahead of CHAN

Ethiopia’s national team, the Walia Ibex, will camp in Morocco ahead of the 2023 African Nations Championship (CHAN), which is set to be held in Algeria from January  13 to February 4, next year.

The president of Ethiopia Football Federation (EFF) president Esayas Jira confirmed the team will leave for the residential camp on January 3rd and stay in Rabat for eight days.

Currently, the Walia Ibex are fine-tuning at an undisclosed location in Addis Ababa under the tutelage of coach Wabetu Abate.They will play a friendly against Morocco before crossing over to Algiers.

Ethiopia have been drawn in Group A alongside hosts Algeria, Mozambique and former champions Libya.

Jira said the authorities have set up an intensive training program for the team, with some support having come from Morocco.

“Our team will go and acclimatize in Morocco and may play a friendly match. This camp is part of an agreement we signed with The Royal Moroccan Football Federation of Morocco,” says Jira.

Expectations are high in the country that the Walia Ibex will make history in the tournament.

Their first match will be against Mozambique on January 14 before playing host Algeria a week later, and the final match against Libya on January 21.
