Township Rollers Part Ways With Coach Hassan Oktay

Botswana Premier League giants Township Rollers and head coach Hassan Oktay have agreed to part ways.

Rollers on Tuesday suffered their first league defeat of season to arch rivals Orapa United at the National Stadium in Gaborone.

Just hours after the painful loss, the two parties have decided to part ways after just over four months.

There have been indications about where Oktay will end up next, but some high-profile clubs that could be of interest include Azam FC and Higlanders.

“This serves to inform Ma-Popa that the Club and Coach Hassan Oktay have agreed to part ways amicably with immediate effect,” a statement on Rollers’ website read.

“We wish to thank Mr. Oktay for his time with us and wish him all the best for his future endeavours.”

Oarabile Seabo, who has been with the team as assistant coach since July, takes over from the Cypriot.

“We wish to inform you further that Mr. Oarabile “Wilshere” Seabo has been appointed as Interim Head Coach, on a caretaker basis and subject to approval by BFA, until a more permanent solution has been found by the Club,” the statement continued.

“If follows therefore, that it is envisaged that Mr. Seabo will be in charge of the team’s weekend away match vs. Sua Flamengoes, kick off 16:00, and for the foreseeable future.”

Oktay was previously in-charge of Kenyan Premier League side Gor Mahia where he steered the team to the quarter-finals of the CAF Confederation Cup, a feat that had never been achieved before.

He left his role at the 18-time Kenyan champions  before the start of the 2019/20 season citing family issues, only to resign later on.
