Tough Times for Ahly as Mokawloon Inflict Damage on Egyptian Champions

It was a bumpy outing for Al Ahly today evening after the Cairo giants and reigning league champions endured a loss to Al Mokawloon.

The Red Devils relinquished a 3-1 first-leg win before losing abysmally 3-0 as Tunisia’s Esperance completed a brilliant comeback to steal the Total CAF Champions League gong.

That result had the Egyptians gobsmacked, a thing they’re still to come to terms with if their Tuesday league defeat to Al Mokawloon is anything to go by.

Having played fewer games than any outfit in the 18-team Egyptian premier league, Ahly occupy the table basement and a win today would have gotten them off walking slowly back to form but a spirited Al Mokawloon weren’t gifting away a thing.

Al Ahly teed off strongly but an Ahmed Ali Kamel’s lone goal was enough to inflict damage.

Ali made sure it wasn’t a party to remember for the hosts slotting home a nice finish to send his season goal tally soaring to seven and earning his side the points as they climb to fifth in the standings on twenty points.

Elsewhere, at the Petro Stadium, Zamalek bullied seventh-placed El Gounah three unanswered goals.

Tunisian import Ferjani Sassi opened the scoring three minutes into the second half prior to Omar El Said doubling the advantage.

Kharaba added the third to round off matters to help consolidate Zamalek’s lead at the table top. The White Knights now lead the log by six points.
