Threat as Security Boycott Tunisian League Game over Non-payment of Fees

Threat looms over the safety of Tunisian league players following the refusal of security personnel to secure a domestic league match.

Threat looms over the safety of Tunisian league players following the refusal of security personnel to secure a domestic league match.

The particular game involves Club Athletique Bizerti (CAB) and SC Sfaxien billed for Thursday next week.

The two sides are bitter rivals but the game could potentially be rescheduled by the league’s organising committee after the North African country’s security sector penned a letter informing both teams of its refusal to turn up for the match.

The security body, called the National Guard (NG), said Bizerti failed to pay its personnel dues owed to them in their previous encounter, alleging CAB’s president even attacked one of their guards.

The NG filed a complaint to the league disciplinary committee seeking for sanctions be slammed on CAB’s boss for the purported assault.

In a twist of events, league organisers instead cleared the CAB top dog of wrongdoing – a thing that left the National Guard livid.

And in a move to show their disenchantment over the latest decision, the National Guard have opted against showing up in Bizerti’s next game unless they receive fees owed to them.

Meanwhile, Tunisia’s FA are yet to react to the development that could potentially leave players prone to threat if the match goes ahead.
