South Africa League Wrap: Pirates Beat Highlands

South African football league round up.

Orlando Pirates Tuesday night recuperated from a snag to beat fourth-placed Highlands Park.

It took a lone goal from Tshegofatso Mabaso, plundered in ten minutes from time, to secure The Sea Robbers the spoils.

Played before 11,000 strong home fans at the Makhulong Stadium, Pirates were starring away and their Tuesday night’s victory couldn’t have been a perfect recuperation from the 4-3 loss in their previous match.

In a previous encounter last Friday, SuperSport United drew 2-2 with Black Leopards while Cape Town City bit the dust to Matrizburg United 2-1.

Golden Arrows also breezed past Polokwane City 1-0 courtesy of Thabiso Kutumela’s goal from the spot-kick.

Stellenbosch also humbled Orlando Pirates 1-0 as Highlands Park sliced Chippa United 2-0 on Saturday while Amazulu overcame Baroka 1-0 on a day second-placed Mamelodi Sundowns got brought flat back to earth by table-topping Kaizer Chiefs.

At the basement is Chippa United who boast of just four points in nine games.

Namibia’s Peter Shalulile headlines the goal-scoring charts with six to his name, one ahead of Kermit Romero Erasmus of Cape Town City.
