Kaizer Chiefs have closed their academy and postponed fixtures in line with South Africa Football Association (SAFA) temporary shutdown due to the coronavirus.

Players who were part the club’s full-time residency programme, housed at the Kaizer Chiefs Village in Naturena, South of Johannesburg have been sent home.

Due to the closures, the academy matches due to take place during the coming weeks have also been postponed.

This includes the Multichoice Diski Challenge (MDC league) and Bay Hill Premier Cup which was meant to be taking place in Cape Town from the 8th – 13th April.

Also the club’s U-13, U-15, U-17 and U-19 teams have been affected as fixtures in the SAFA Gauteng Development League have been postponed.

Kaizer Chiefs have assured their supporter that they will provide further updates as to when the players in the academy will return to training and when their fixtures will resume.

Football activities in South Africa are expected to resume on April 14, 2020 after an assessment on the way forward expected to be conducted by authorities

There had been a talk in Johannesburg about resuming the domestic fixtures behind closed doors but SAFA doctor Thulani Ngwenya has again reiterated that playing in empty stadiums is not an option.
