Simba Look To Continue Imperious Form

Simba SC will be looking to continue their imperious form in the CAF Champions League when they face Group A rivals El Merreikh at the Al Hilal Stadium on 6 March 2021. The kick off time is 13h00 GMT.

The Msimbazi Reds defeated Al Ahly 1-0 in Dar es Salaam on February 23 to claim their second win in the group, having started the campaign with a 1-0 win away to AS Vita- a sequence of results which has seen them remain on top of the group with six points.

El Merreikh, meanwhile, have shipped seven goals in their defeats at the hands of Al Ahly (3-0 away) and AS Vita (4-1 at home).

As a result, the Sudanese side is placed at the bottom of the group standings with zero points which puts their coach Nasreddine Nabi under much pressure.

“We have not been good enough in our first two matches. It does not represent the true quality of our team and I hope to see a response in our first match against Simba,” said tactician.

In head-to-head stats, this will be the first meeting between El Merreikh and Simba in the continental competition and the Tanzanians will be looking for a win.

However, Simba coach Didier Gomez Da Rosa predicts a tough encounter as he personally knows the calibre of the opposition to face having coached the Sudanese outfit before.

“We have followed our opponents. So, we know how to counter them in the duel. Al Merreikh have some of  the best players and I predict the encounter is going to be one of the toughest because they have not won a single game in the group stage,” said Gomes.

The other Group A match on Saturday sees AS Vita host Al Ahly in Kinshasa.
