Sierra Leone FA Lifts Ban On Rapids Striker Kei Kamara

The Sierra Leone Football Association (SLFA) has recalled Colorado Rapids striker Kei Kamara to the national team after it lifted his ban for disciplinary issues.

The Sierra Leone Football Association (SLFA) has recalled Colorado Rapids striker Kei Kamara to the national team after it lifted his ban for disciplinary issues.

Kamara was axed from the Leone Stars squad to face Liberia in a 2022 World Cup qualifiers for his social media message calling the people of Sierra Leone “hypocrites”.

In a statement, SLFA says the decision had been taken after Kamara made a public apology on the local media outlets and on his social media pages.

“The decision has been taken after Kamara’s apology on radio and social media over the weekend following his suspension by SLFA for breach of professional conduct,” part of the statement reads.

Kamara has since welcomed the decision by SLFAs to pardon him stating that he is looking forward to being the first foreign-based in Leone Stars camp.

“Thanks to all the fans that sent messages, this is what “US” Sierra Leoneans should be all about, supporting one another through the ups and downs,” said Kamara.

He added; “Thank you for the love, and I’m looking forward to wearing our colours to represent every Sierra Leone person everywhere in the world.”

“Looking forward to being there soon as first,” the passionate Leone Stars striker noted.

Kamara currently leads Colorado with 11 goals scored in MLS play this season. At the international level, he’s tallied four times in 27 caps for the Leone Stars, all coming in African Cup of Nations.

His last goal for Sierra Leone came during the 2017 African Nations Cup qualifiers against the Ivory Coast in Abidjan under Ghanaian coach Sellas Tetteh.

Liberia will host the first leg in Monrovia on 4 September with the return leg due in Freetown four days later.
