Shumacher Ruled Out Of Malawi AFCON Squad After Sustaining Injury

Shumacher Kuwali has been ruled out of the 2021 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) scheduled to take place in January-February.

The Malawain striker tore his right thigh muscles in Flames’ training on Monday afternoon and will not be fit in time for the continental football showcase in Cameroon.

“It is not looking good with Schumacher. He has injured his thigh. Unfortunately, he was rated highly in my plans and I was relaying on him. He seems to be a versatile player and very good listener who was putting into practice all our strategies,” said Malawi Head of Technical Mario Marinica.

“He was with us for along time and was one of the players who was adapting well to the new philosophy. We have to move on without him and find new solutions. We wish him all the best.”

Malawi are currently in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia for a Pre-Afcon training camp where they have lined a series of friendlies.

Late arrivals are being reported in the camp including South Africa based striker Gabadinho Mhango, who arrived on Tuesday night and Charles Petro who jetted in on Wednesday.

Four players were left behind in Blantyre after testing positive to Covid 19. These include defenders Gomezgani Chirwa and Sankhani Mkandawire as well midfielders Chimwemwe Idana and Charles Petro.
