Senegalese National Team Coaches Row Over Diatta

The Senegalese senior team and U-23 coaches are mired in a row over the selection of winger Krepin Diatta.

The Senegalese senior team and U-23 coaches are mired in a row over the selection of winger Krepin Diatta.

The 20-year-old Club Brugge sensation is selected by both coaches of the U-23 and the senior Taranga Lions amid a dispute over who he now plays for.

Krepin is having a breakthrough season with his Belgian side prompting his call-up.

And weighing into the saga, gaffer Aliou Cisse insists there’s no controversy, arguing U-23s coach Koto knows he first selected Krepin for the senior Lions’ encounter with Madagascar in their final Africa Cup of Nations qualifier.

“There is no controversy, some of your colleagues (the press) wanted to create that. Koto (the U-23s coach) talked about it and he knew very well that I was going to summon Krepin Diatta. For me, Team A of Senegal is a priority, but there was no problem,” Cisse said in a press briefing this week.

Senegal’s A-team are already guaranteed qualification to the AFCON finals in Egypt, finishing top of the group.
