The West Africans needed a 3-1 score to seal passage to the quarter-finals in what started out as a thrilling match in Paraguay.

The sides showed circumspection in the first two periods before Senegal intensified the game in the third. Mamadou Sylla intercepted a UAE corner prior to ballooning in a long-range effort into the left corner.

Nibou Diatta then doubled the advantage with his shot deflecting off the net-minder of the opposition and into the net.

Ali Karim managed to get a goal for the UAE but couldn’t take them beyond the knockouts.
