Gambia Beat Liberia to Seal WAFU U-20 Semi Finals Spot

Liberia have been dumped by the Gambia in the West Africa Football Union U-20 Nations Cup.

Liberia have been dumped by the Gambia in the West Africa Football Union U-20 Nations Cup.

In what was a grudge match after both outfits met in the previous edition with the Gambia slaloming past the Lone Stars, the defending champions ended up securing all points in a  hard-fought duel.

Gaffer Matarr M’Boge’s charges sealed a place into the semi-final via a lone goal after Momodou Bojang plundered a last-gasp effort in added time just when the game looked destined for a goalless affair.

Belgium-based goal-getter Basiru Mbye who captained the Gambian team that won the previous edition was shoved into the starting line up having arrived late in camp along with Estonia-based right-back Muhammed Sanneh.

Mbye could have put the game to rest when put through in front of goal but the KV Oostende striker’s effort was unbelievably saved by the Liberian net-minder.
