Samatta Teturns To Genk As Striker Signs On Loan From Fernebahce

Belgian giants KRC Genk have re-signed striker Mbwana Samatta on loan from Fernebahce until the end of the season.

The Tanzanian international  cost  around £7million ($9m) when he joined from DR Congo top flight side TP Mazembe in the summer of 2016.

Samatta then made a move to Aston Villa before switching to Fernebahce on a four-year deal after the end of a loan deal.

However he has struggled to live up to that price tag and has returned to Genk in search of regular first-team football.

During his fist spell at Genk, Samatta enjoyed a hugely successful four  seasons, scoring 75 goals in 191 matches, and claiming the Golden Shoe in 2018/19.

Genk can acquire him after loan deal for a fee of around €3 million or €4 million depending on bonuses.

At his former club Aston Villa, Samatta found the back of the net on his Premier League debut against Bournemouth and also in the Carabao Cup final against Manchester City in March 2021.

Samatta has made 59 appearances for Tanzania scoring 20 goals and providing nine assists. He also captained them to their first Africa Cup of Nations finals in 39 years.
