Hugo Marques: Petro de Luanda Sign Goalkeeper From Cape Town City

Petro de Luanda have signed Angoal goalkeeper Hugo Marques from South Africa Premier Soccer League side Cape Town City on a one-year deal.

The 36-year-old goalkeeper made 344 appearances for City , keeping 17 cleansheets that helped the team finish second in Dstv Premiership last season.

Marques was also honored with the 2021-22 PSL Goalkeeper of the Season award in his first season at the club.

“”I am very happy to be here, I can’t wait to meet my new team-mates now and begin training,” Marques said.

“I’m 36 now, so I feel it is the right time to move on and I’m looking forward to the new season.”

Marques joined City from Portuguese third tier outfit Farense where he played all 24 games in 2020/2021 season before his stay was cut short by Covid-19 outbreak.

Earlier indications were that the player could be offered another one-year deal to keep him at City until at least June 2023.

However, the shot-stopper has requested to return home to attend to a personal matter and City will have to then immediately recall Bafana Bafana international Darren Keet to the starting line-up.
