Rwanda have named an experienced 30-man squad for the African Nations Championship ahead of the home-based Amavubi’s third successive tournament appearance.

Coach Vincent Mashami revealed his team for 16-nations Championship on Saturday, with Rwanda being pooled in Group C alongside defending champions Morocco, Uganda and Togo for the tournament involving home-based teams.

Rwanda Premier League champions APR are best represented team in the squad, having contributed nine players.

Mashami has largely opted for players tested at either international and CAF club continental level, with Gasogi United striker Iradukunda Bertrand and Nsabimana Aimable being part of inexperienced players in the squad.

The present team is comprised largely of players who impressed at the 2020 Rwanda Premier League season and in the training camp which held for a fortnight in Kigali.

Jacques Tuyisenge, Ernest Sugira, Olivier ‘Seif’ Niyonzima and Eric Rutanga represent part of experienced picks by Mashami, who will be aiming to improve on Rwanda’s group-stage exit last time out.

Rwanda will begin their campaign against regional rivals Uganda at Stade de la Reuinificatio-Doaula on January 18.

The Amavubi play their second group game at the same venue against Morocco on Friday 22 January and conclude their group participation against debutants Togo on Tuesday 26 January 2018.
