Record Kenyan Premier League champions Gor Mahia have confirmed the appointment of Portuguese tactician Carlos Manuel Vaz Pinto as their new head coach.

The 46-year-old, who has been in-charge of Ghana’s Accra Hearts of Oak, comes in to replace Brazilian tactician Roberto Oliveira who has since returned to his native country.

“We are pleased to announce our new head coach Carlos Manuel Vaz Pinto from Portugal,” a statement from the club read.

Gor Mahia Secretary General Sam Ochola said the club has high hopes for the club’s new appointment after a disastrous African Champions League campaign.

“He is a good coach with all the credentials. He should start preparing the team for league matches from Sunday, ” Ochola said.

Vaz Pinto arrival is not the only change expected at the KPL side as they are expected to appoint a new assistant coach to deputize the Portuguese.

Vaz Pinto has previously coached St George of Ethiopia and Angolan club Clube Recreativo Desportivo do Libolo.

He also had a short stint at FC Famalicao Under-23 team in Portugal from September 2019 to June 2020.
