Rwanda FA Chief Jean Damascène Sekamana Steps Down

Jean-Damascène Sekamana has officially stepped down as the president of Rwanda Football Federation (FERWAFA).

Sekamana has been in charge of FERWAFA since March 2018 but announced his resignation on Wednesday citing personal commitments.

In a written statement to the federation’s executive committee, Sekamana said: “Running a football body requires a lot of time and effort because it is important to monitor it day by day. This requires me to do it as a daily routine. I find that combining it with my other personal responsibilities would have had a negative impact on the development of football.”

Sekamana thanked FERWAFA members for their confidence in him, and for cooperation during his tenure.

The retired military general replaced Vincent ‘De Gaulle’ Nzamwita who was president between 2013 and 2017 before he resigned from his position due to personal reasons.

The former SC Kiyovu president, Sekamana, garnered 45 votes out of the 53 casted to defeat his lone challenger Rurangirwa Louis who only managed 7 votes.

FERWAFA is set to name Marcel Habyarimana, who is a Vice President in the federation, to serve as interim President until March next year.
