Nkana Complete Double Over Namungo

Nkana FC claimed three vital points and completed the CAF Confederation Cup double over Namungo FC in a thrilling Group D encounter on Sunday afternoon.

Namungo started the better of the two teams and had the first shot on goal in the eighth minute when Stephen Sey met a right wing cross, but he fired inches over from eight yards out.

Four minutes later Lucas Kikoti came bitterly close to opening the lead when he met a left sided free-kick from Eric Kwizera, but his close range effort was superbly saved by the keeper.

In the 29th minute Ackim Mumba broke behind the Namungo defence, but Mohamed Jafari managed to get back to distract the striker as he shot just over the target from six-yards out.

Ten minutes later Namungo had their first effort on goal, but Frendy Tangalo’s long range effort sailed well over the crossbar.

The Red Devils came into the game after that and took control of the game, but failed to create any significant chances in front of goal before the break.

The half ended 0-0.

Neither side could create any decent scoring chances at the start of the second half with the first effort on goal only coming on the hour mark, when
Duke Abuya met a left-sided cross from Liaison Thole, but he headed his effort wide.

In the 71st minute Nkana took the lead when substitute Freddy Tshimenga magnificently volleyed home a ball over the top of the Namungo defence from Harrison Chisala, 1-0.

Namungo spent the final 15 minutes trying to get back into the game, but were unable to do so as the Nkana defence stood firm.

The win for the Red Devils sees them remain in third place, closing the gap to the top two as well as extend the lead over Nkane in fourth place.
