Nigeria Professional Football League: Champions Plateau Begin Title Defense with a Win.

Defending champions Plateau United on Sunday began the season with a win against Nasarawa United at the Lafia Township Stadium.
Plateau the last term defied the odds to beat the league’s big guns to the title – the first in 43 years of existence.
The Peace Boys were tipped to endure a sluggish start following cancellation of their pre-season trip to Ghana owing to early start of the league.
However, United proved doubters wrong on Sunday after getting off to a flying start by picking the points at home to Nasarawa.
The domestic league has been missed since its closure on September 9th, 2017 but that long wait and thirst was addressed over the weekend with ten games played across various venues in the country.
In those games, Katsina United drew Kano Pillars while Niger Tornadoes blitzed past league newcomers Kwara United. Ifeanyi Uba also narrowly got the better of Yobe Stars as Wikki Tourist beat Go Round.
Akwa were at hand to shock Enugu Rangers 2-0 as Lobi Stars tied Enyimba one-all. Heartland versus Sunshine Stars ended too, a stalemate.
On Sunday, Abia Warriors walked over Mountain of Fire and Miracles (MFM) 2-0 as Rivers United strolled past El Kanemie Warriors 1-0.
Monday and Tuesday will be a sabbatical for teams in the Nigeria Professional Football League.
Action resumes on Wednesday with Plateau playing its first game of the season at home against Rivers who also won the opening fixture.
Kano Pillars versus Nasarawa United, Enyimba and Heartland including the tie between El Kanemi Warriors and Abia will be the notable games to look out for this week.
