Nigeria To Unveil New Jerseys For Football Teams

Nigeria will be wearing slightly modified kits for the next two years designed by their American multinational sponsor.

The Super Eagles will feature in their new home against Sierra Leone in next month’s 2021 Africa Cup of Nations qualifier.

According to Nigeria Football Federation, the new designs were to be launched earlier this year but plans went askew as a result of the global coronavirus pandemic.

“The NFF and its global brand kit-sponsor Nike have taken a further step forward in the plan to unveil another set of kits for the Nigeria National Teams that would wow the world as did those launched on the margin of the 2018 FIFA World Cup finals,” reads a statement from the federation website.

“The Super Eagles will launch the new wears during the FIFA window for international friendlies next month,” adds the statement.

Details from virtual meeting held by NFF top brass on Monday reveal that finishing touches have been put to the designs with observations and comments taken, and Nike officials fully briefed on the minute details of the preferences of the NFF chieftains.

However, the new design posted on Nike website is not very different from current model. It still has that balance between retro and traditional African design, and could end up giving the beloved Naija jersey a run for its money.

The Nike swoop is beautifully placed just below the Super Eagles’ football on the front to cap a stunning look.

Nike says the new design in the pipeline was inspired by traditional Nigerian fabric patterns. They also said they are doing away with template designs for national teams in favour of a more bespoke,  hand-drawn efforts.
