New Club to Represent Liberia at the 2018 CAF Confederation Cup

Liberia will be represented by another club in next year’s CAF Confederation Cup after Monrovia Club Breweries was eliminated by third division side Samira FC, in the quarter finals of the FA Cup.

M.C. Breweries, who currently holds the FA Cup title, got knocked out of the competition on a 2-2 aggregate against a youthful third division side that advanced to the semifinals, on two away goals advantage.

Breweries represented Liberia in this year’s Confederation’s Cup but did not qualify after losing 4-0 (aggregate 4-3) to J S Kabylie in the preliminaries, at the Tizi Ouzou stadium in Algeria.

The Second leg result was a shock to Liberians considering their side had won the first leg with a convincing 3-0 score line in what was a splendid performance over the Canaries, at the Antoinette Tubman Stadium in Monrovia.

Liberia was also represented in the last 16 of the Confederation Cup after championship winners, Barrack Young Controllers was drawn to face SuperSports United following its first round exit from the CAF Champions League. The side lost 4-1 on penalties to Clube Ferroviario de Beria.

Following M.C. Breweries’ FA Cup knock-out, the next representative will be decided from the last four in this year’s tournament.
