Zambia Super League side Napsa Stars have confirmed the signing of a former Zesco United defender David “Calabar” Owino on a two-year-deal.

Owino had become available after coming to the end of his contract with Zesco United, a club that he joined at the beginning of 2015.

The 32-year-old defender is expected to compete with the likes of Luka Nguni, Amos Simwanza, Bornwell Silengo and Keegan Nzulu.

The former Gor Mahia centre-back made his Zambia Super League debut back in February 2015 and has managed a total of 75 appearances in top-flight competitions since.

Napsa will be expected to register Owino for the African Confederation Cup play-off round where they have been drawn against Kenyan Premier League giants Gor Mahia.

The Mohamed Fathi’s coached outfit will begin the tie away in Nairobi where they first leg is scheduled for February 14 while the return leg will be played a week later.

Napsa eliminated Malawian side UD Songo on the away goals rule in their Confederation Cup first round fixture, playing to a 0-0 draw in Lusaka on 22 December 2020 before securing a 1-1 draw in Blantyre on 6 January 2021.

A win for Napsa in the two-legged tie will earn them a place in the group stages of the competition.
