Naija League: New Signings Excite Rivers United Midfielder Weli

Rivers United midfielder Christian Weli believes the new signings will revitalize the club and help them win the 2018/2019 Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL) title.

Rivers United midfielder Christian Weli believes the new signings will revitalize the club and help them win the 2018/2019 Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL) title.

The Pride of Rivers have brought in players including Wasiu Jimoh, Peter Ibakanma, Drissa Bamba and Waheed Adebayo.

Adebayo will be direct competition to Weli’s winger position at the club, but the giant midfielder believes that teamwork is bigger than his own feelings.

“I welcome the new signings to the club and wish them a quick settling in period. They are all strong players and I think they will certainly help in dealing with a season full of commitments,” said Weli.

Rivers finished ninth in the 2017/2018 NPFL title chase after posting an impressive second leg performance, where they went five games unbeaten. Weli expects the same breathlessness at the start of the season.

“It is a season that we want to play in the winning spirit that we have shown in the past,” he added.

Rivers are currently in training at their home stadium is the Yakubu Gowon Stadium in Elekahia, Port Harcourt and have been taking part in a series of CSR programmes during the ongoing festive season.
