Mt. Kenya United Finally Relegated

Cash strapped Kenyan Premier League side, Mt. Kenya United finally suffered relegation from the Kenyan Premier League after going down 3-1 in a league match played on Saturday at Kenyatta Stadium in Machakos.

Four weeks ago, United hit the headlines when they became the first Kenyan team in over a decade to issue a walkover after players downed their tools. They repeated the same a week ago when they failed to show up for their league match against Mathare United.

Another walkover against Sony would have seen them relegated automatically but they showed up only for them to be relegated after going down to the high-flying Millers.

In-form Derrick Otanga scored twice while Salmon Omollo found the back of the net once. Brian Nyakan scored the consolation goal for the former Kenyan moneybags.

The team is rock bottom in the Kenyan Premier League log with 18 points meaning the highest points they can gather is 27 which is one shy of a playoff spot.

It’s not yet clear as to whether the team will honor their remaining three league matches before they embark on life in the second tier league.
