Former Ajax Cape Town midfielder Franklin Chale has called an end to 20-years of service to the beautiful game.

The celebrated winger, who last featured for Ubuntu FC in South Africa’s National First Division, brought to an end a long journey that began at FC Fortune as he heads into football coaching.

“My kids are getting bigger and older and it’s time to shift my focus to my family,” Cale was quoted by KickOff.com.

“I have missed out on so many things in their lives and although I cannot bring those times back, I can be there for them in the future to make new memories, you know.”

“It’s a bitter-sweet moment as it was my bread and butter for so long but I must move on. I need to thank my wife and my late mother as these two women have been there for me during thick and thin.”

Cale had illustrious career locally, turning out for 9 different clubs including current PSL champions Mamelodi Sundowns

The veteran midfielder began his PSL journey from Ajax Cape Town between 2004 and 2008 before moving to Mamelodi Sundowns the SuperSport United.

He also turned for Steenberg United, Highlands Park before ending his career at Ubuntu FC. He made five appearances for the national team, Bafana Bafana, having made his international debut in a friendly against Norway on 10th October 2009.
