Morocco Set to Appoint Bruno Genesio as Technical Director

Former Lyon coach Bruno Genesio has reportedly accepted an offer to become Morocco’s new technical director.

Former Lyon coach Bruno Genesio has reportedly accepted an offer to become Morocco’s new technical director.

According to reports in Rabat, the French manager will link up with the national team before this summer’s Africa Cup of Nations.

The 52-year-old left his role as Lyon head coach at the end of the season after failing to take the side into the Copa de France final, which was an ultimatum set by club president Jean-Michel Aulas.

Since the departure of Nasser Larguet on May 4, the Royal Moroccan Football Federation (FRMF) officials have been keen to add to the Atlas Lions backroom staff.

However, they failed in pursuits for Sven Mislintat and Marc Overmars.

FRMF officials will expect the new technical director to focus on strengthening the organization’s programs and providing support to the management team.

Genesio represented Lyon for a decade as a player, before taking the reins as head coach in 2015.

Morocco will face Cote d’Ivoire, Namibia and South Africa in Group D of the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations.

The Atlas Lions will kick off their campaign by facing Namibia on 23 June.
