Morocco Eyeing Second Group C Win

Morocco will be targeting their second 2021 Africa Cup of Nations, Group C win when they meet Comoros on Friday evening. Kick-off is at 16h00 GMT.

The Atlas Lions got their campaign off to a bright start on Monday when they beat Ghana 1-0 at the Ahmadou Ahidjo Stadium in Yaoundé, in the opener.

However, meeting debutants Comoros means they will have to remain disciplined and ensure they consolidate their spot in the group standings.

Following their win over the Atlas Lions, they have three points with one goal from one match so far.

Achraf Hakimi, Romain Saiss, Yassine Bounou, and Youssef En Nesyri are the three danger men to pose a threat for the Islanders.

Morocco coach Valid Halilhodzic is aware of the importance of the match where a win will take his charges to the Round of 16.

“I was happy with the performance presented by my players (in the opener against Ghana”. We will continue to capitalize on this determination and confidence shown by the players for the next game,” the Atlas Lions coach said in a past interview.

Meanwhile, Comoros were defeated 1-0 by Gabon in their opening group match which was played in Yaoundé on Monday.

The Coelacanths will increase their chances of progressing to the round of 16 if they secure a victory against second best ranked side in Africa.

Comoros head coach Amir Abdou will be hoping to lead his side to their first victory in Cameroon against the Atlas Lions

“It’s extraordinary to be in this competition. We will have to keep working, persevere in what we are doing and keep our game,” the French-born coach said.

“The next game is against Morocco, a formidable team. We will have to get up quickly. It will be necessary to know how to remobilize, to look ahead, to raise our heads to prepare the next game.”

This will be the third meeting between Morocco and Comoros. The most recent match was 2018 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers which ended in a 2-2 draw.
