Can Burkina Faso Tame Senegal?

Burkina Faso face tough test when they take the Teranga Lions of Senegal in the first semifinal clash of the 2021 Africa Cup if Nations on Wednesday.

Kick-off is at 19h00 GMT.

The encounter is set to be played at the Ahmadou Ahidjo Stadium in the Cameroonina city of Yaoundé.

The Stallions booked their place in the final four with a narrow 1-0 win over Tunisia in Garoua on Saturday thanks to a goal from Dango Ouattara.

Kamou Malo’s men are hoping to go all the way and win their first Africa Cup of Nations title. They were beaten by Nigeria in the 2013 final and they also finished third in 2017.

Bertrand Traore and Hassan Bande are the Stallions key players and they will look to help the team overcome Senegal.

Burkina Faso will have to be at their best against a hungry Senegal side that has showed that they have what it takes to score goals.

Meanwhile, Senegal  beat Equatorial Guinea 1-0 in a quarter-final encounter at the Ahmadou Ahidjo Stadium on Sunday, with the goals coming from Famara Diedhiou, Cheikhou Kouyate and Ismaila Sarr.

The Teranga Lions are still in mission to win their maiden Africa Cup of Nations title having went close by finishing runners-up in the 2019 edition in Egypt.

Alliou Cisse, the Senegal head coach, has built a solid Teranga Lions team which is yet to lose a game in the 2021 Afriica Cu of Nations finals.

The former Senegalese international will have the likes of Sadio Mane who has proved very pivotal for the team in this competition.

In head-to-head stats according to the FIFA.com, Burkina Faso and Senegal have locked horns 12 times.

The Stallions have won two matches compared to the Teranga Lions’ three victories, while seven games ended in a draw.

The most recent meetings between the two sides were in September 2017, as part of 2018 World Cup qualification, with a 0-0 and 2-2 draw in Dakar and Ouagadougou respectively.
