Meddie Kagere Joins Amavubi Camp Ahead of Ivory Coast Duel

Tanzania-based forward Meddie Kagere has joined Rwanda camp ahead of their match against Ivory Coast.

Tanzania-based forward Meddie Kagere has joined Rwanda camp ahead of their second Group H match of the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers scheduled for Sunday against Ivory Coast.

The Simba SC star, who arrived in Kigali on Sunday evening, became the fourth foreign-based player to arrive in Amavubi camp after South Africa-based goalkeeper Olivier  Kwizera, Egypt based striker Dany Usengimana and his Wekundu wa Msimbazi teammate Haruna Niyonzima who joined the squad last week.

Defender Faustin Usengimana is expected in the country Monday evening from Kuwait, together with FC Shakhtyor midfielder and forward Jacques Tuyisenge from Gor Mahia.

The Belgium-based duo of Salomon Nirisarike and Djihad Bizimana are expected in the country Tuesday morning as they are currently engaged with their various clubs.

By Tuesday evening, Amavubi coach Vincent Mashami expects to have all the 32 players in camp for wholesome preparations ahead of the high stakes match.

Kagere was earlier stripped his citizenship after it was unearthed that many foreign players in the country had acquired Rwandan passports through the wrong process.

That decision was sparked by an incident in 2014 when the country was disqualified from the 2015 AFCON after one of their players was found to have two identities and was using a different name and a Congolese passport when playing for his club.

The former Gor Mahia forward regained his nationality in April this year after duly completing the naturalization process.

Rwanda started their campaign on a wrong note after losing 2-1 away to the Central African Republic in Bangui.
