Mauritania Top-Flight League Suspended Due To Coronavirus

The Mauritania Football Federation (FFRIM) has been forced to suspend all football matches, including the top-flight Super Division One League, due to the rolling number of coronavirus cases.

The Mauritania Football Federation (FFRIM) has been forced to suspend all football matches, including the top-flight Super Division One League, due to the rolling number of coronavirus cases.

The Super Division One League season started late November where three matches had been played.

However, after five of FC Nouadhibou players returned positive tests, the FFRIM took the measure to curb further spread.

FC Nouadhibou received the news of the infection at their camp after they had left Nouakchott for their African Champions League match against Asante Kotoko.

The suspension of the season was communicated by Super Division One League president Amghar Papa Dieng, who among other reasons cited the straightened measures taken by the authorities including the introduction of a curfew from 6pm to 6 am.

Mauritania government in conjunction with FFRIM had given teams the green light to congregate for preparation for the new season under strict adherence to the coronavirus protocols.

FC Nouadhibou embarrassed the nation as they failed to raise a team for the second leg encounter against Asante Kotoko due to coronavirus infections forcing CAF to disqualify the Mauritania champions.
