Marvelous Nakamba to Join Warriors Camp Despite Injury

Zimbabwean midfielder Marvelous Nakamba will join the Warriors camp in Harare to boost the morale of his teammates for the sink or swim Africa Cup of Nations qualifier against Congo-Brazzaville.

Zimbabwean midfielder Marvelous Nakamba will join the Warriors camp in Harare to boost the morale of his teammates for the sink or swim Africa Cup of Nations qualifier against Congo-Brazzaville.

Keen on making sure that players are well psyched up for the do-or-die clash, Nakamba will arrive from his Belgium base in Harare on Wednesday next week to join his teammates at the camp.

He has received permission from Club Brugge to be with the Warriors, similar to the united front style displayed by captain Knowledge Musonda who was with the team even when he was injured.

Nakamba is expected to take the role of motivator of the side but it is not known if he will train with his colleagues as he continues his recovery from injury.

The Warriors named the Brugge midfielder in the 23-man squad for the match set to be played on March 24 at the National Sports Stadium but he suffered an injury on Wednesday during training with the Belgian outfit.

The hip injury is expected to keep him out of the game for four weeks but despite the setback, he has decided to travel to join the training camp to be held in Harare.

Zimbabwe national team head coach Sunday Chidzambwa announced a 23-man squad last Tuesday but the Cosafa region football giants will be missing Kaizer Chiefs midfielder Willard Katsande, who has also missed club selection in several recent matches.

Nakamba’s absence means Zimbabwe will have to do without one of their top midfielder who ironically also missed the Warriors trip to Brazzaville for their first showdown against the Congolese, which ended in a 1-1 draw.

In his place, Mahachi Kudakwashe, who plays his club football in South Africa, gets a first call-up to the senior national team.

With eight points in their coffers, Zimbabwe only requires a point from this home contest to seal the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations slot

Second-placed Liberia (7 points) travels to Kinshasa to face Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) with 6 points.

The 2019 AFCON finals will be hosted by Egypt between June and July.
