Maritzburg goalkeeper Richard Ofori is set to undergo his medical at Orlando Pirates within the next 24 hours ahead of his proposed move.

Maritzburg goalkeeper Richard Ofori is set to undergo his medical at Orlando Pirates within the next 24 hours ahead of his proposed move.

The 26-year-old Ghana international is set to complete switch from the Team of Choice to the Buccaneers after the clubs agreed to a deal last week.

Pirates have been linked with several goal minders including Ofori, Tusker FC’s Emery Mvuyekure and Amazulu skipper Siyabonga Mbatha.

Ducor Sports has been informed that there is a three-year deal on the table for the player while the fee involved could stretch to a figure in the region of around €820,000.

Ofori, who was recently appointed Ghana’s second vice-captain, established himself as one of the best goalkeepers in South Africa last season and his exploits caught the attention of several Dstv Premiership clubs.

He joined the KwaZulu-Natal side from Wa All Stars in 2017 before the club exercised their one-year option in April where they extended his stay until June 2021.

His influence in the club saw him earning the captain’s band last season and went on to lead the side to a respectable seventh-place finish.

Maritzburg are now left with Bongani Mpandle and the untested Jethren Barr as options in goal‚ which will force the club coaches to search for another goalkeeper before the transfer window closes on November 17.
