Reigning Premier Soccer League (PSL) champions Mamelodi Sundowns have signed Kaizer Chiefs player George “Mido” Maluleka.

Reigning Premier Soccer League (PSL) champions Mamelodi Sundowns have signed Kaizer Chiefs player George “Mido” Maluleka.

The 31-year-old Bafana Bafana star joins Sundowns on a three-year deal after turning down a new deal at Naturena.

The Brazilians official website has confirmed the arrival of the midfielder, who rejected Amakhosi’s two-year contract extension offer.

“Mamelodi Sundowns is delighted to announce that George Maluleka has signed a 3 year deal with The Brazilians,” read the announcement.

“Maluleka, who spent 6 years at Naturena is swapping gold for yellow and is crossing the Jukskei to Chloorkop to compete for major silverware on offer on the African continent and beyond.

“Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the transfer window in South Africa is closed until the 2019/20 season reaches its conclusion and Maluleka will be registered as soon as it opens.”

Sundowns have also disclosed that when the current league campaign resume with training and competition, Maluleka will not be able to feature for his new club.

“For the time being Maluleka will not be able to feature but will start training and getting acquainted with his new club and teammates,” added the statement.

Maluleka joined Chiefs in January 2014 and was part of the league and cup double-winning team in 2015.

The central midfielder previously turned for SuperSport United and only revealed in March that he had signed a pre-contract with Mamelodi Sundowns.

Chiefs lead Sundowns by four points with eight games remaining, though they have played a game more than the Brazilians, with the league expected to resume either later next month or in early August.
