Liberia’s FC Fassel on the Brink of Emerging Debutant First Division Champions

With three matches left to play in Liberia’s First Division Championship, league leaders, FC Fassel, could well be on the path of lifting its first ever championship with three league matches to go, should they secure at least a win and a draw.

The Soccer Missionaries are currently topping the league table with 43 points – six above second-placed LISCR FC – with 14 wins, one draw, and four losses in of 19 games.

Having maintained the lead following a 1-0 win over LPRC Oilers, the FC Fassel only need six points from the next three fixtures against Invincible Eleven, Monrovia Club Breweries, and ELWA United to be crowned champions of the Liberia Football League.

They kicked-off the season on a good note after winning the first match against ELWA United with a comfortable 5-1 victory that sent them top of the league table on goal difference.

With no signs of dropping form, coach Sam Chebli’s side continued its winning run but fell short in a defeat to the Shipping Boys of LISCR FC after striker Christopher Jackson, netted home the winner in the 75th minute.

Later in the second half of the season, it got tough for Chebli after his side conceded three more losses in their first six games but they did little to impact any change in position on the league table in due part, thanks to the failure of LISCR FC’s continuous drop of points.

Fassel now tops LISCR FC by six points and look likely to represent Liberia in next year’s CAF Champions League.
