Liberia: LISCR One Win Away from Winning Championship

It’s been six years since LISCR FC last won the Liberian top-tier league championship. With two games left in the 2022–23 league season, LISCR need a victory to reclaim the league championship.

With a 5-3 victory over Invincible Eleven at Tusa Field on Sunday, LISCR warmed up for a crucial moment in the season and set up a potential championship celebration against Heaven Eleven.

The 2016/17 champions secured all three points courtesy of a hat-trick from Sierra Leonean forward Ishmael Dumbuya and a goal each from Fallah Johnson and the league’s top scorers Christopher Jackson.

Dumbuya’s hat trick increased his total goals tally to 14 league goals, while his teammate Jackson currently sits atop the chat with 24 goals.

LISCR sit top of the league table with four points ahead of Bea Mountain, who are yet to concede a defeat. After topping the league table for over half of the league season FC Bea Mountain were dethroned by LISCR FC after four straight draws that negatively effected their standing on the table.

It could be a double championship celebration for the “Shipping Boys” as they are set to face Watanga FC in the FA Cup final scheduled for April 30.

If coach Sam Chebli’s side go on to win both both titles, it will be a repeat of the 2016/17 league season when LISCR won both championship and FA Cup under the guidance of Gambian coach Tapha Manneh, who currently serves as head coach of the Liberia U-20 team.
