Leading African Scorer 34-year-old Mbokani Wants to Play for Five More Years

DR Congo’s Dieumerci Mbokani insists he wants to play five more years of top-flight football.

DR Congo’s Dieumerci Mbokani insists he wants to play five more years of top-flight football.

Aged 34, the goal-getter is a hot cake in the transfer window with a blizzard of teams on his trail.

His fourteen goals this campaign is courting him the attention barely a few months after he was doubted and dismissed as squad deadwood.

However, under Antwerp, whose dramatic season turnaround he is single-handedly responsible for, Mbokani has upped his game with a secret requiring he skip days from training to allow his recuperation owing to his age.

And having seen the trick work magic, Diemerci feels he could go on to play for four or five more years when he would have then been 39 before hanging up his boots.

“I still feel good. I also live a quiet life alongside football nowadays. I don’t go out much, rest a lot. Totally different than when I was young and still single. Now I am married and have children. I could go on for 4 or 5 more years,” he told RTBF.

Prior to joining Antwerp on a free, the forward had been linked with returning to Anderlecht with whom he won the Belgian league title and the golden boot several times.

Questioned about it and where lies his increasingly uncertain future, he said: “There was indeed some contact (with Anderlecht), but only with my manager. Anderlecht is still my club, I started there, I live in Brussels … I would like to return there someday. Why not?”
