Le Messager Ngozi defender Steven Mugisha has shared the reason behind their good run in the Burundi Premier League and the eventual lifting of the league title on Saturday 20 June at the Stade Urukundo de Ngozi.

Le Messager beat Inter Star 3-0 to clinch the title with one match to spare, and the Ugandan international has attributed the victory to teams’ hard work and determination.

“Our main driver has been hard work and determination. Our head coach has also been a great unifying factor and we thank him for that,” Mugisha said in an interview with Ducor Sports.

The former Police FC defender went further to explain how good it feels to be part of a winning team and especially with as the team emphasizing that they will continue to work hard for next season’s Africa Champions League.

“It’s a dream of any player to lift the title. I am happy that my team (Le Messager Ngozi) made it this far to clinch the title. The feeling is great more-so with God who has been on our side,” he added.

“I feel I have done well so far but we can’t stop giving our best because we’ve won the league. We will ensure that we give it our best in the African Champions League,” he promised.

Mugisha joined Le Messager Ngozi in 2018 and has been one of the key players for the newly crowned Burundi Premier League champions.

He previously played for Police FC in the Uganda Premier League having earlier turned for Naguru Young Soccer Academy, Nkumba University and Entebbe Football Club.
