CS Sfaxien Defender Set To Join Zamalek

CS Sfaxien defender Hamza Mathlouthi is set to join Egyptian Premier League side Zamalek in a deal worth a reported $2 million, Ducor Sports understands.

CS Sfaxien defender Hamza Mathlouthi is set to join Egyptian Premier League side Zamalek in a deal worth a reported $2 million, Ducor Sports understands.

The Tunisia international will have a medical at the Africa Super Cup champions in the coming days before the deal is confirmed.

Sfax and Mathlouthi were thought to be in talks over a new contract but it is understood the defender was keen for a move out of Tunis.

Last summer Mathlouthi was reported to have refused to go on the club’s pre-season tour and put in a request to have his contract terminated to allow him to join another club, which was rejected by the Sfax.

The 27-year-old right-back is sighted as a replacement for Tunisia international Hamdi Naaguez, who had terminated his contract back in December over unpaid wages.

Mathlouthi joined Sfax in August 2016 from Club Athlétique Bizertin and went on to make 79 appearances across all competitions.

With the departure of Mathlouthi, Sfax will be in the market for a defender and have been linked with TP Mazembe defender Issama Mpeko and Zesco’s Adrian Chama.

Zamalek have been linked with a number of players over the past few weeks including Wydad Casablanca midfielder Walid El Karti and Ary Papel from Primeiro de Agosto to name a few.
