Kenyan football star Dennis Lewa has been confirmed in a grisly road accident.

Kenyan football star Dennis Lewa has been confirmed as among the 56 people that died in a grisly road accident that happened on Wednesday night at Fort Ternan in Kericho County.

The 23-year-old defender, who last played for relegated Kenyan Premier League side, Thika United, perished in a bus accident while on his way to Kakamega.

A statement posted by Robert Muthomi, the Secretary General of the Football Kenya Federation, read: “The Kenyan Football fraternity is mourning the death of Dennis Lewa who passed away in the tragic bus accident in Kericho. Our thoughts and prayers are with his family, friends, and teammates at this trying time.”

Lewa’s contract had expired with Thika, with the defender reportedly on his way to sealing a move to top tier side Kakamega Homeboyz.

He has been capped at youth level for the national beach soccer team.

The young defender arrived at Thika United in 2017 and was at once the captain of the team.

Injuries hampered his playing time, appearing only 15 times last season, where at the end he expressed his desire to leave the club and try his luck elsewhere.
