Ian Otieno is enjoying his spell as Zesco United’s No 1 keeper and intends to cement his place at the first team.

The 26-year-old goalkeeper joined the Zambian league champions in the January transfer window from Red Arrows and has ably taken his chance with some fine performances.

In a wide range of interviews published on the club’s website, Otieno said that drive and determination at the club makes him wants to succeed and has so far picked valuable tips at the league giants.

“I am fortunate to join this great club. I am equally fortunate that I am able to work and learn from one of Zambia’s great goalkeepers, Jacob Banda. He has been a great helper in as far as my stay is concerned at the club,” he said.

Otieno has thus far featured 7 times for Team Ya Ziko, keeping two clean sheets, conceding 6 goals.

The former AFC Leopards custodian is believed to be one of the emerging young talented goalkeepers on the continent.

He earned his maiden appearance for Zesco on Wednesday 5 January in a Zambian Super League match against Nakalamaba Leopards which was played the Levy Mwanawasa Stadium in Ndola.

Zesco are currently in 5th place on the standings, four points adrift of log leaders Forest Rangers and with one match in hand.

“The fans should continue to support us. It is understandable that they are not very happy with the results because Zesco is a big team. I can rest assure them that we are still on course to return the title,” Otieno noted.

Zambia Super League is currently suspended until further notice due to the Coronavirus outbreak.
