Kenyan FA Ordered To Pay $1million To Sacked Former Coach

World football governing body FIFA has ordered Football Kenya Federation (FKF) to pay former Harambee Stars coach Adel Amrouche US$1,000,000 (Ksh 108million) for his unlawful dismissal.

World football governing body FIFA has ordered Football Kenya Federation (FKF) to pay former Harambee Stars coach Adel Amrouche US$1,000,000 (Ksh 108million) for his unlawful dismissal.

Amrouche parted ways with Harambee Stars in 2014 after a disappointing aggregate loss to Lesotho in a 2015 Africa Nations qualifier.

The Belgian was only a few months into his five-year contract, and he headed straight to FIFA to sue the federation and was awarded Sh60 million.

Not satisfied with the outcome, Amrouche headed again to CAS in Lausanne for Sport asking for more money.

FKF felt the original ruling from FIFA was too ‘harsh’ and pleaded with Amrouche so that they can settle the matter out of court but no solution was forthcoming.

The world football governing body has now given the Kenyan FA a period of 30 days beginning October 1 to pay Amrouche or risk being locked out of the 2022 FIFA World Cup qualifiers.

Daily Nation reports that Kenyan FA president Nick Mwendwa has received a letter asking his office to pay the Belgian coach.

“I will ask FIFA to give us an extension. We are paying for the ills by the former management. I will talk to the government and request they assist us in paying Amrouche,” explained Mwendwa.

Under Amrouche’s tutorage, Kenya won the 2013 CECAFA Senior Challenge that was hosted in Nairobi.

He is also remembered by football fans for masterminding a credible draw away to high-flying Nigeria in Calabar in a 2014 World Cup qualification match.

Amrouche is currently the boss of the Botswana national team after stints with the Libya national team as well as Algeria clubs MC Alger and USM Alger.
