Kenya Friendly With Tanzania Cancelled

The eagerly awaited second international friendly match between Kenya’s Harambee Stars and Tanzania’s Taifa Stars that was planned for Nairobi on March 18, has been called off.

A source at Football Kenya Federation (FKF) has revealed to Ducor Sports that the two East African nations have cancelled the match following the death of Tanzania President Pombe Magufuli.

The Taifa Stars suffered a 2-1 defeat against Kenya after the strikes from Eric Kapaito and Abdallah Hassan helped Harambee Stars win their second test game on Monday ahead of the upcoming African Cup of Nations qualifiers.

The second match at Moi International Sports Centre, Kasarani was in doubt from the moment the Tanzania’s Vice-President announced the 61-year-old president had died of a “heart condition”, which he had suffered for 10 years at a hospital in Dar-Es-Salaam.

Harambee Stars coach Jacob Mulee was hoping to use the match against Tanzania as part of his preparations for the Africa Cup of Nations qualifier against Egypt.

The team is expected to stay in camp in Nairobi in preparations for the Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers against Egypt.
