George Maluleka has finally dumped Kaizer Chiefs for another Absa Premier Soccer League champions Mamelodi Sundowns, after a successful six-year spell at Amakhosi.

Maluleka, who joined Chiefs in 2014 from SuperSport United, was set to enter into the final six months of his deal with the Glamour Boys in June.

The 31-year-old midfielder had been involved in protracted negotiations to renew his contract‚ which have now clearly failed.

It is reported that he received a good offer from the Brazilians and signed a pre-contract, though Chiefs have stated that they were not informed.

“The contract talks between Kaizer Chiefs and midfielder George ‘Mido’ Maluleka have reached an unexpected ending,” reads a statement released by Chiefs.

“Kaizer Chiefs offered the 31-year-old a two-year contract extension + one-year option to renew on his current contract, but he turned it down.

“Following a string of negotiations, the player himself revealed to the Club that he has signed a pre-contract with Mamelodi Sundowns.

“Notably, Mamelodi Sundowns have not informed Chiefs about their engagements with George Maluleka as protocol dictates.”

Earlier on, the midfielder was linked with a move to Scottish giants Celtic but talks with the player’s agent failed to materialize.

Maluleka made 128 appearances, scoring six times for Kaizer Chiefs in all competitions.
