Kabwe Warriors Sack Coach Ian Bakala, Announce Replacement

Zambia Super League giants Kabwe Warriors have sacked head coach Ian Bakala and moved quickly to replace him in hot seat.

The Magnificent lost 2-1 to Zanaco FC at home on the eve of Christmas, in a game that proved to be the former Chipolopolo’s midfielder last in charge.

Kabwe Warriors have since announced Chris Kaunda has taken over as coach on a long-term deal, returning to the MTN sponsored league for the first time this season.

“Today the Executive has decided to make some changes to the Technical Bench. We have brought in Chris Kaunda and Josphat Nkhoma,” said Warriors Chairman Hayden Dingwall.

“Chris comes with huge experience, he did very well at Zanaco and I think he comes with the experience that the club needs.”

The duo was unveiled at Railway Stadium on Monday and will start work immediately.

Kaunda was fired by Zanaco in May 202following a series poor results which marked the end of his one-and-half year reign.

His guided Zanaco to their debut continental quarterfinal qualification in the 2019/2020 CAF Confederation Cup where they were knocked out by Pyramids FC of Egypt.
