John Mikel Obi Leaves Kuwait SC on Mutual Consent

Nigerian midfielder Jon Mikel Obi has left Kuwait Sporting Club after his contract was terminated by mutual consent.

The 35-year-old joined Kuwait SC in July after parting ways with English Championships side Stoke City, and had another  8 months left to run in his contract.

Mikel never made any league appearance for the Gulf side but just featured in several Asian Football Confederation Cup matches.

Before the surprise move to Kuwait SC Mikel had made 41 appearances in two seasons with Stoke and his deal had another 12 months left to run.

He had joined toke from Turkish side Trabzonspor, having previously spent 11 years with English Premier League side Chelsea.

During his at the Stamford Bridge, Mikel made 249 Premier League appearances for Chelsea, which ended when he left the Blues in 2017.

He won the Champions League and Europa League, two Premier Leagues, three FA Cups and the League Cup during his time with the London club.

Mikel won 89 caps for Nigeria, played in two World Cups and helped the Super Eagles win the 2013 Africa Cup of Nations, before announcing his retirement from international football two years ago.

He played for Nigeria in the past two World Cups and was part of the team that finished third at the 2006 and 2010 Nations Cups.
