Highlanders Hire Mourniho’s Former Assistant

Zimbabwe Premier Soccer League giants Highlanders have hired former Chelsea assistant manager Baltemar Jose De Oliveira Brito as their new coach.

The 70-year-old coach, who previously had stints with Al-Ittihad Tripoli and Esperance de Tunis, holds a UEFA Pro coaching license.

Brito succeeds interim coach Joel Luphahla who was appointed following sacking of former coach Mandla Mpofu.

The Brazil-born gaffer, who was on Jose Morinho’s coaching staff during stints with Porto, Chelsea and Inter Milan, joins Bosso on a one-and-half year deal.

Brito will be assisted by Portuguese Antonio Jao Martins Leao Torres and the duo has been tasked to restore the club’s lost glory.

“Highlanders Football Club is pleased to announce Baltemar Jose De Oliveira Brito as the new coach of the club’s first team, taking over from coach Mandla Mpofu who recently parted ways with the club on mutual consent,” reads part of the statement from the club.

““Brito comes with an assistant coach Antonio Joao Martins Leao Torres from Portugal who is a holder of a UEFA B coaching licence.

“The entire structure of the current technical team will be announced in due course. We wish the coaches the best of luck.”

Highlanders are currently placed 11th on the Premier Soccer League table with just 17 points from 14 matches .They will face Kariba in their next domestic league match on Saturday.
